Menu Button

Problem

Starting point for a MenuButton proposal. Base is the current PDS v2 MenuButton (the PDS v2 reference checkout, branch v2.x), copied so every existing option is available to build on. What changes is still to be defined. Likely sibling of the Button and Icon Button proposals (agentic treatment), since MenuButton renders a Button or IconButton as its trigger.

Existing API (all copied)

  • Trigger variants: primary, secondary, subtle, reverse-secondary, navbar (subtle without a resting background)
  • Sizes (3): xs, s, m
  • Modes: label + angle-down, or iconOnly (+ iconName, default ellipsisVertical)
  • Agentic (new): isAgentic on the trigger (AI gradient border), primary and secondary
  • Extras: tally, statusDot (label mode only), disabled, placement, onClick, onOpenChange, testId, undefinedLabel
  • Menu items: menu item (callback), link, heading, separator, node; with icon, description, isCritical, disabled
  • Mobile: isMobileAccordion swaps the dropdown for an inline accordion at the mobile breakpoint
  • Used by: SplitButton (isSplitButton, positionReferenceRef)
